From Fayetteville North Carolina,

                           Introducing

                The Original Sounds of BYRDMONKEES!

This unique acoustic duo combines ‘subterranean-soul’ with ‘blues-infused folk’, creating a style of original Americana, which they've dubbed ‘Sugar and Thump’.

Lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Zachary Jon Lewis serves up every line with soulful articulation, delivering contemporary lyrical potency through layers of rhythm and simple hooks. Meanwhile, lead guitarist, R. Jay Hamrick sifts through his own melodic undercurrents, before finding perfect, original, harmonizing rifts, filling the space with his palpable currents. With undeniable chemistry, Byrdmonkees strike a rare balance between the delicate rawness and melodic beauty. Although many of their songs are saturated with unmistakable ‘feel good’ energy,  the majority of them can more aptly be defined as the lamentations of the spiritually ambivalent. The disappearance of ritual in our daily lives is soon transformed into the total lack of acknowledgment for anything sacred at all. Eventually, If you live in the world long enough, you’ ll start to ask this God some paradoxically irrational questions concerning the suffering of the innocent, or the meaning of life in an unjust world. It is the responsibility of the younger generations to question out-of-date doctrines and practices. But many who cast off rituals do so without replacing them. And after a few generations of this careless practice, the unique particulars of the denomination will be lost to the ignorance of generalizations.  Byrdmonkees believe that creating music is just the natural reflex to these realizations. Therefore they have decided to turn the process of creating music into their RITUAL, the ONLY ritual having any real chance at ‘saving’ anything. And so from these wild places they sow such seeds in order to reap the songs. It’s the Byrdmonkee religion. It’s ‘Sugar & Thump!’

Although the fellas are relative newcomers onto the Fayetteville music scene, they’ve been turning heads since the very drop. Always capable of leaving a positive impression, Byrdmonkees have been playing several venues throughout the city such as ‘Drunk Horse Pub’, ‘The White Rabbit’, and ‘Izzys’, just to name a few. And You can always count on hearing the fellas downtown on hay street come fourth Friday in Fayetteville.
